On a crisp, chilly December evening in Toronto’s Distillery District, the holiday season was in full swing. The streets were lit with sparkling Christmas lights, and the air smelled of hot cider and festive cheer. But for a special group of friends, family, and loved ones, the magic of that evening wasn’t just in the twinkling lights or the holiday atmosphere—it was in the love shared between two very special people: Benson, our Muay Thai instructor, and his girlfriend Carina.

 

The plan was set: Benson was going to propose to Carina, and we were all invited to witness the moment that would change their lives forever. The cold weather and bustling holiday crowds didn’t stop us from gathering for this once-in-a-lifetime moment, and despite a few hiccups along the way, the evening turned out to be nothing short of magical.

 

### A Chilly Wait, But Worth It

 

As with any well-planned surprise, there were a few delays. Benson, ever the busy and dedicated instructor, was running late—no doubt caught up with his commitments to the gym and his students. Anyone who’s trained with him knows he’s always running just a little behind because he’s giving his best to everything he does.

 

On top of that, finding parking in the Distillery District on a Tuesday during the Christmas season proved to be a challenge. It was crowded, with shoppers, tourists, and holiday revelers filling the streets. But even with the cold, the parking struggles, and the waiting, the excitement in the air was palpable. We were all eager to be part of this moment.
